On Wednesday, Nalanda University’s new campus in Rajgir, Bihar, was officially opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Nalanda University Act of 2010 established Nalanda University, which has its new campus situated next to its old ruins.
The recently opened campus is spread across an amazing 455 acres and was constructed with sustainability and creativity in mind. Built entirely of sun-dried bricks, it is a proud example of a “Net Zero Green Campus.” This environmentally friendly project includes 100 acres of green space, 100 acres of water bodies, an on-grid solar power plant, a drinking water treatment facility, and a water recycling plant for repurposing wastewater.
With enrollment in six schools, including Historical Studies, Ecology and Environmental Studies, Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religion, Languages and Literature/Humanities, Management Studies, and International Relations, the university can accommodate roughly 7,500 instructors and students.
