According to UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar, students who have completed four years of undergraduate study are now qualified to sit for the National Eligibility Test (NET) directly. The purpose of this action is to make the procedure easier for students who want to pursue higher education.
Furthermore, a PhD can be directly pursued by individuals with 75% aggregate marks or equivalent grades, creating new opportunities for academic progress. With these modifications, the eligibility requirements for these tests have undergone a substantial shift, giving eligible candidates greater options.
“Candidates with four-year undergraduate degrees are now eligible to apply for the NET and pursue a PhD straight. These candidates are permitted to appear in any discipline in which they wish to pursue a PhD.
“The candidates having passed a four-year or eight-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75 pc marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed,” the chairman of the UGC stated.
For people in the SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), differently abled, and economically disadvantaged sections, there may be a five percent mark relaxation or its equal grade.
